Annu Palakunnathu Matthew

Born 1964 in Stourport, England.

Lives and works in Providence, USA.

Annu Palakunnathu Matthew is a Professor of Art and the Director of the Center for the Humanities at the University of Rhode Island (RISD). She is also the 2015-17 Silvia-Chandley Professor of Nonviolence and Peace Studies at RISD. She describes herself as transcultural, and her work addresses the political, social and transformative issues that stemmed from her experience of oscillating between three cultures and spaces (Britain, the United States and India). She has been an artist in residence at Yaddo and MacDowell and her work has been supported by various fellowships including the Fulbright Program and John Guttman Trust. Her recent exhibitions were showcased at the RISD Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Smithsonian and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Her work can be found in the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum, George Eastman Kodak, RISD Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
