Employing a variety of mediums such as video, installation, and text, Liu Yu’s practice focuses on the “invisibles,” groups of people usually excluded from society. Since she grew up surrounded by film culture, Liu Yu’s earlier works share a similar language to cinematography — narrative, perspective, fiction. Her recent works draw from documentary field research and the exploration of human social groups in order to re-examine representations of space. Liu Yu recently participated in exhibitions at Hong-gah Museum (Taipei), Kuandu Museum of Fine Art (Taipei), Taiwan Academy (Los Angeles).
