Max Sher (born 1975 in Russia), a native of St. Petersburg, raised in Siberia and educated in Siberia and France, is currently based in Moscow. He works in photography, installation, and video. Sher's artistic investigations mainly revolve around representation of built environment and history in the post-Soviet area.
His work was exhibited both at home and internationally, including at Calvert22 Gallery in London, Triumph Gallery and Museum of Architecture in Moscow, and has appeared in various mainstream and specialized media, such as The Guardian, Bloomberg Businessweek, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, to name just a few.
Sher's first artist book A Remote Barely Audible Evening Waltz was published by Treemedia Publishers (Moscow) in 2013. The second book titled Palimpsests is due to be published in late 2017 by Ad Marginem Press (Moscow) with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
