In 2017, the Jimei x Arles photo festival and the magazine Madame Figaro China launched the Jimei x Arles - Madame Figaro Women Photographers Award, honoring the work of Chinese women photographers exhibited at Jimei x Arles. This is the first award dedicated to women photographers in China. It is made thanks to Women in Motion, an international programme launched in 2015 by the luxury group Kering to underline the contribution made by women to image-led industries

In this talk, speakers who are major contributors to the image industry each in their own field, whether it is photography, media, cinema or fashion, will discuss the role of women in image making. Is there such a thing as the female gaze? Or in other words, what does the perspective of a female photographer or artist bring to a photography or art work that would be different from a male view of the subject? How do the fashion and cinema industries reflect the current shift in gender roles?
