Pushpamala N. is a photo- and video-performance artist, sculptor, writer and curator. Starting her exploration with photo and video in the 1990s, she is known for her strongly feminist work. Interested in history and cultural memory, she explores political and social enquiries through her work, incorporating and questioning familiar frames from art history, photography, film, theatre and popular culture. She has received several honors for her work including the National Award; the gold medal at the Sixth New Delhi Triennale; the Charles Wallace Trust Fellowship for residency at St. Martin's School of Art, London and the Senior Fellowship, Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development. Her work has been recently exhibited at the FotoFest Biennale, Houston; Kamloops Art Gallery, British Columbia; National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai and Maximilian's Forum, Munich.
